Researchers have developed a new procedure for surgery. This allows the broken ribs to be attached quickly. You will not have to face any pain in it. In the current treatment, the process of attaching broken ribs is prolonged. Researchers at about a dozen medical centres in the US have tested the Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fracture (SSRF) procedure. In this process, both ends of the fracture are connected through a plate. It remains on throughout the process of repairing the rib. Patients undergoing SSRF due to rupture of three or more ribs reported slight pain in the process. Surgeon Evert Erikson of the Medical University of South Carolina said, “Research suggests that people with lung problems may also benefit from this procedure.”
Researchers have developed a tool that can detect the risk of depression in adolescent children years in advance.
The new tool will be able to detect the risk of depression in teenagers
Researchers have developed a tool that can detect the risk of depression in adolescent children years in advance. This method may pave the way for devising new methods to monitor the risk of mental illnesses in adolescents. According to the researchers, the predictive tool can help identify children who are at risk of severe depression after the age of 18. This conclusion has been drawn on the basis of studies conducted on several thousand adolescents. Researcher Valeria Mondelli of King’s College London, UK, said, “This is the first important step towards developing a research tool that can help identify depression and improve mental health in adolescents”.
